IVS is a not-for-profit organisation and depends on the philanthropic contribution it receives from its donors and well-wishers. To provide scholarships, build school facilities and help out with the community, IVS relies on several ring-fenced Endowment Funds which require support from the citizens and well-wishers.

IVS offers financial assistance to students who have difficulty in meeting their fee payments. The Schemes are as follows.

Financial Assistance Scheme

This scheme is interest-free but involves the parent or guardian giving a written guarantee that the funds loaned will start being repaid 6 months after the graduation of the student. This scheme is for those who have a sufficient income stream but there may be a temporary difficulty as more than one child is receiving higher education.

The funds for the Schemes are collected in four different ways:

  • School earmarks 50% of the admission fee for this kind of assistance each year (the other 50% of the admission fee goes to the Endowment Fund).
  • A substantial amount for the fund each year is donated by the philanthropists of the country.
  • The School also arranges fundraising events and activities to generate contribution from the community and to meet the fund requirements.
  • A small component of the fund is also generated through repayment from students who were benefitted by the scheme during their studies at IVS.

Graduate Endowment Fund is created for the postgraduate program which is the first of its kind in this part of Pakistan: its interdisciplinary core is integral to teaching and learning towards critically engaged visual art/design/architectural practices in academia and in the industry, emphasizes praxis, integrating research and practice so that it is most relevant to the needs – and situated in the framework – of the advances in academia and industry, nationally and internationally. Its interdisciplinary nature also allows for flexibility, self-evaluation, re-structuring and growth, thereby making the program dynamic.

The Graduate Endowment Fund is the financial resource pool for IVS. Over the years, the fund has expanded due to a number of philanthropists and donors who are keen to see the School grow into an institution of excellence in the field of design studies.

The Endowment Fund helps to set the School on its track into the future. With the existence of the Endowment Fund, new programmes can be added so that the School can keep up with advances in technology and information.

Families of the Alumni and friends of the School are invited to contribute to the Fund in order that their future generations may partake of the infinite learning IVS has to offer.

Nusserwanjee Building Fund was established to maintain the historical Nusserwanjee building that was relocated from the old Kharadar area to become part of the IVS campus. It is the biggest relocation project of its kind in the subcontinent and a pride of the School as well as the city of Karachi. Being an old building located near the harsh coastal environment, Nusserwanjee requires continuous upkeep, maintenance and care to prevent it from deterioration and damage caused by the sea.

The Nusserwanjee Building Project is unique in the architectural history of the subcontinent. The Nusserwanjee Building is a 100 year old Kharadar landmark, named after a Karachi philanthropist, Jamshed Nusserwanjee. Today, it has been relocated, stone by stone, to become a part of the IVS campus. A monumental undertaking, all 25,000 sq. ft. of the building has been transported to a beautiful new site by the sea. Each of its 26,000 stones is rich in history and beauty, and each is being preserved for future generations to come. The four-story East Wing was completed in 2001 and the three story West Wing became operational at the end of 2004. The two wings give the School a further 25,000 sq. ft. of space, while additions to the building and interior continue to be made. On the IVS campus, Nusserwanjee Building faces the Arabian Sea and over the years the proximity to the open sea environment with high humidity and strong saline winds has accelerated the predictable process of deterioration of its material, particularly its stone facade.

The responsibility to maintain the building has become challenging for the School.  In order to contain and reverse this serious environmental threat to the building there is an urgent need to repair, conserve and maintain its stone cladding and extensive timber work. A detailed technical evaluation of the damage has already been carried out. All this requires large amounts of money and School finds it difficult to stretch its existing resources.

The realization of this Project has required the contribution of many individuals. So far the Nusserwanjee Building Fund has been built with the help and generosity of a number of individuals and corporations who have become its sponsors.

IVS has developed these parks with its intellectual resources along with the donations it received from its well-wishers. The upkeep of the parks requires regular funds.
